As one of the few non-Japanese-Brazilian Shinto practitioners in Brazil, I was interested in starting a wiki to provide more information about the religion to the Brazilian Portuguese speaking public. I already knew of Dokuwiki from playing around with it a few years earlier, and when choosing a wiki app for the new website ended up selecting it due to the ease of customization, maintainability, small size, and generally simpler everything when compared with bigger solutions. I also liked the flat-file-driven approach, which fits nicely within the current “NoSQL” trend in data storage for web apps, even though I had no problem accessing a MySQL server if needed. – alexgiegAlexander Gieg
